Undercover @ CPAC

I spent most of Thursday and Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference, which is the conservative event of the year. I'm still reeling from the experience, and haven't quite finished documenting it all, but for now, check out the Campus Progress Undercover Liveblog. I got to meet, and sometimes even briefly chat, with the likes of John Bolton, Michelle Malkin, Mitt Romney, Grover Norquist, Laura Ingraham, and Tom DeLay, among others.

One other thing. The first thing out of Laura Ingraham's mouth after I introduced myself? "Wah hoo wah."
Wah hoo wah indeed.

  1. Oh dear Lord. There are very few people in this world I would refuse to shake hands with, but Mr. DeLay is most definently one of them. If that bastard walked in one side of the room, I might have to walk out the other. I'm shocked you were actually able to choke out a smile for that photograph. Egads. Dear Lord.

I think posts like these show why Shah does a much better job than Seal or Shepherd. Those guys always come off as insecure and hysterical... but these are kind of funny

I love the wide-eyed smile in the first picture. The look really says "I'm in the presence of one of my heroes."

    11:36AM is probably Niral. Whatever.

  4. Nah, sorry, 11:36 wasn't me. I'd never sell my self short as "kind of funny."

And Tom DeLay is really one of my fucking heroes, check out how much I coddled him when the scandals were first breaking: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~thepress/read.php?id=772

The wide-eyed smile has a lot more to do with the fact, on my first pass going in for the photo-op, DeLay brushed me off (gotta make time for a pretty lady) as this 40-something woman pawed at him and just fawned all over him - I almost burst out laughing right there.
Also, being down a couple of bourbon and ginger ales (open bar, dudes!), I really couldn't hide how much I was reveling in the absurdity DeLay's presence, let alone the event as a whole.

I appreciate the irony and didn't think for a second that you actually liked DeLay.

If you were out for ironic pictures with conservative politicians, your expression in the DeLay picture is perfect.

Laura Ingram sounds pretty fucking sweet. Er, besides being a militant gay-hating bitch. But the shout out to Dartmouth is still awesome.
