Whom the Oscars left out

The Academy Award nominations

Who Got Left Out:
Best Picture: A History of Violence
Best Director: Well, Cronenberg (see above), but also Bahman Ghobadi, Turtles Can Fly
Best Original Screenplay: Judd Apatow, Steve Carell, The 40 Year Old Virgin (Guess what—good comedy is tough to write.)
Best Adapted Screenplay: Gregg Araki, Mysterious Skin
Best Cinematography: Ryszard Lenczewski, My Summer of Love; Christopher Doyle, 2046
Best Lead Actress: Laura Linney, The Squid & the Whale (WTF, Charlize?)
Best Lead Actor: Johnny Depp, The Libertine
Best Supporting Actress: Scarlett Johannson (this is a permanent nomination; she doesn't even have to be in a film)
Best Supporting Actor: Mickey Rourke, Sin City
Best Foreign Film: Eligibility is tricky here; I actually haven't seen any of the official list of eligible films. I think Nobody Knows misses it by about a month, so I'm going to go with that.
Best Animated Feature: I hate that shit.
Best Documentary: Grizzly Man (biggest snub of this year)
