Here is the actual text, and here is the relevant part:
Sec. 32. (a) Marriage in this state shall consist only of the union of one man and one woman.Clearly this is intended to mean that the state will not endorse new forms of marriage that are not between one man and one woman, but, ummm... that word "identical" seems to me to say that the state can't recognize "marriage" itself either. Marriage is after all identical to marriage.
(b) This state or a political subdivision of this state may not create or recognize any legal status identical or similar to marriage.
Hair-splitting? Yeah, but everything's bigger in Texas.
