Miers

Harriet Miers, a Bush insider, has been selected as the candidate for O'Connor's spot.

Miers has no experience adjudicating; other than being White House Counsel, her big claim to fame or expertise is administrating the Texas Lottery.

Interestingly enough, the Bush administration's rampant cronyism is finally getting through to at least some conservatives, and others are worried about her pro-lifeness. Even PowerLine doesn't have anything nice to say about her.

No, honestly, I'm not smiling. Okay, maybe I am.

Update: Volokh rounds up more conservative wailing and gnashing of teeth.

In other news, Wolf Parade is awesome.

Earl Warren didn't have any judicial experience either, and I'm sure you probably think he did an okay job...

  3. There's a difference between nominating a White House Counsel member (Miers) and a 3-term governor who at least had experience as a DA, like in the case of Warren.
As for him doing an okay job, well, that was kind of like Souter sneaking into the court. Eisenhower called Warren the biggest mistake he ever made.

Miers attended Southern Methodist University and Southern Methodist University of Law, then ran the Texas State Lottery, then represented Microsoft and Walt Disney in her "esteemed" private practice career, and then as an "advocate of pro bono work," she logged in many hours for the Catholic Charities of Dallas. I'm thinking that even though she has not voted in the Senate or Congress, she is probably pro life and pro corporations...EWWWW
